What are You Overdue for?

In 1667, Robert Walpole borrowed a book about the Archbishop of Bremen from Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, England. Time went by and the book got misplaced. Perhaps overdue fines were smaller back then. Perhaps Robert Walpole moved away. We may never know exactly what happened between 1667 and 1955. What we do know is that 288 years later, the overdue book was found and returned to the library. It kind of makes you think about what overdue items we have in our own lives.

“The LORD says: ‘It isn't too late. You can still return to me with all your heart.’” Joel 2:12

Mid-Year Replacement for School Supplies

Just a reminder that many of the items originally sent during the first week of school start to get used up mid-way through the year. Most items like pencils, expo markers, and glue sticks need to be replaced throughout the year. Please check with your child to see if any supplies are needing to be replenished. Thank you!

Make-up School Days Are Finalized and Scheduled

Thank you again for supporting our community during our winter ice storm. We missed several days of school. We have already made up a few of those days. Here are the dates for the remaining makeup days. They will all be on Fridays and all will be 8:00 - 12:30 times. During these remaining three Friday makeup days, Home & School will provide an additional hot lunch.

  • Friday, March 15

  • Friday, April 18

  • Friday, May 3

1/2 Day Friday this Friday

This Friday will be our second Friday of the month. We will begin the morning with chapel. School will be out at 12:30. On our Chapel Fridays, we do have an after-school AG program until 2:30. For those not planning on staying for the AG program, school will dismiss at 12:30.

100 Day at ECA

Students in grades K-2 will be celebrating Day 100 of their school year this week. This is a favorite for everyone. As students begin to see how big 100 really is, they have opportunities all day to create “100” in new and unique ways.

Thank You for Supporting Our Winter Jog-a-thon & Thank You Volunteers

Our preliminary results are in and this year’s winter Jog-a-Thon was a huge success. Thank you all for your support and thank you to all the students who ran so hard! There were several students who ran 30 plus laps with our top student running 50 laps. We will be recognizing these students at our Friday chapel this March 8. With your support, we raised over $7000. Again, the donations will be divided into three groups: 50% Worthy Student Fund, 25% Washington DC Trip, and 25% Playground Project. There are still a few donations and pledges coming in. If you, your extended family, or friends were able to make pledges or donations, you can make payments online by going to www.emeraldchristian.com and clicking on “make a donation" under “Jog-a-thon” or you can call the office to make arrangements. Any checks sent to school should be made out to Emerald Christian Academy.

Thank you to all of the Home & School leaders & parents who came to volunteer and help keep eyes on our students as we ran our course. Decorations and snacks were fun bonuses for all of our students. We appreciate your time and commitment to our students!

Washington DC Final Deposits

Parents of students in grades 7&8, after our Jog-a-Thon fundraiser, we will allocate 25% of raised funds to student accounts for their Washington DC trip. We will send out updated, personalized emails with remaining balances for students tomorrow, Monday, March 4. Parents, just a reminder that raised school funds support our students. Parents going along need to have the full deposit amounts paid by the end of this first full week of March. Thank you for your understanding as we plan for reservations for activities, housing, food expenses, and fuel.

7th & 8th grade parents, we will also be planning a final meeting before we leave for Washington DC later in March. We still need to finalize a date, but the goals will be to share final itineraries, confirm contacts, review trip goals and expectations, and have time for any last-minute questions. Stay tuned for a date!

Christian Counseling Available - Free Resources:

The NAD (North American Division of SDA) has recently shared new resources for children and teens that offer a safe and anonymous place to talk or text. Here is a news release from the NAD.

We’re excited to announce the launch of www.aruggedjourney.org our newest NAD site providing free online mentoring for guys. A Rugged Journey joins www.gorgeous2god.org (for young women) which has grown in its scope and ministry since its beginning in 2017.

These sites, along with their counterparts on social media, provide free help to our teens/young adults in a space they can ask questions without judgment or fear. The questions are answered by a team of dedicated Seventh-day Adventists at AIM on the campus of Andrews University.

In addition to the confidential Q & A, positive content is provided through videos, posts, etc.
