Getting Ready for the 2023 School year
At ECA, our vision is that school families Love God, Value Learning, and Serve Others.
Planning for the First Day of School
August 5, 2022
Hello ECA families,
It’s hard to believe school will be starting in less than one month. Monday, August 29 will be our first day of school. As a school staff, we are excited to partner with you and our community to share our school mission: At ECA, we love God, value learning, and serve others.
We understand that there are many last-minute items that need to be taken care of before our first day of classes begin. Here are some things for you to consider in the next few weeks:
- Plan on purchasing school supplies for your child (see attached school supply lists).
Kindergarten (all supplies provided) Grades 1&2 Grades 3&4 Grades 5&6 Grades 7&8
- Review handbook guidelines for our school’s dress policy online at https://www.emeraldchristian.com/student-handbook-1
- Review handbook guidelines for computer / personal electronics at school.
- We purchased new laptops this summer and want to make sure they last for several years. There will be a computer agreement that families will need to sign.
- Make sure you have your family financial plan complete with arrangements made for monthly payments, enrollment, registration, and classroom fees.
- Plan early to complete our ECA school volunteer process. (Any adults helping in classrooms, with home & school, field trips, driving other children for school functions, or even on-campus volunteering need to have this process complete. This involves an online background check, watching a few safety school videos, and having a Covid clearance. This clearance can be proof of vaccination or a submitted and approved religious or medical exemption letter. We value the safety of your children and want to ensure ALL volunteers complete the program’s requirements. Call the school for more details.
- Go to our school’s online calendar at https://www.emeraldchristian.com/calendar to review the school year and upcoming dates.
Finally, our school will be having a mid-August one-night campout at ECA next Saturday, August 13. If you would like to come for the evening or stay the night, it is a great way to connect with ECA families for an evening of worship, singing, campfire, ice-cream, snacks, and games. This evening event will follow our area-wide yearly outdoor church program. We will have a school-provided breakfast the next morning followed by a short 3-hour workbee if you would like to help with last-minute tasks that teachers need help with. Plan on arriving between 4-5 pm on Saturday and then enjoying a relaxed time with our school family. Please RSVP to principal@emeraldchristianacademy.com if you would like to come for the day or stay the night so we can plan for snacks and breakfast the next day. RVs, tents, or even sleeping bags inside the gym are all options. All children need to be accompanied by a parent.
I can’t wait to see you all soon,
Doug Gaylor, ECA Principal

The NAD (North American Division of SDA) has recently shared new resources for children and teens that offer a safe and anonymous place to talk or text. Here is a news release from the NAD.
We’re excited to announce the launch of www.aruggedjourney.org our newest NAD site providing free online mentoring for guys. A Rugged Journey joins www.gorgeous2god.org (for young women) which has grown in its scope and ministry since its beginning in 2017.
These sites, along with their counterparts on social media, provide free help to our teens/young adults in a space they can ask questions without judgment or fear. The questions are answered by a team of dedicated Seventh-day Adventists at AIM on the campus of Andrews University.
In addition to the confidential Q & A, positive content is provided through videos, posts, etc.
