Loving Our Community

Principal’s Message:

Hello ECA families,

Recently, I came across small treasures that belonged to my grandfather. Buried in a faded, dusty box among old coins, tiny toys, and clippings of hair, I came across valentines that were almost 100 years old.

It made me wonder how many of us still hold onto valentines from the past. Why is it that we go out of our way to remember all of our classmates and friends on that one day of the year. What if every day had treasures we could keep?

This week, as we think about that one special day coming up in February, perhaps we can challenge ourselves to find ways to find the good in everyone everyday.

“Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” - Philippians 2:1-4.

MAP Testing Makeup Tests

Last week, there were some students who were unable to complete MAP tests. We will be having makeup test sessions this week from 11:00-12:30 Monday - Wednesday. If your child missed any testing times last week, this is the only chance to make up the winter testing.

Winter Fundraiser Continues

Three weeks ago, your child brought home a packet with information about our winter fundraiser with territorialseed.com. This fundraiser will continue for the next two weeks. Seed packets that sell for $3-$4 can help us in a big way. We receive 45% of all purchases. If you have garden beds, flower beds, or have families or friends who routinely buy seeds for the upcoming spring, this is a great way to support our school.

Raised funds will go towards our Worthy Student Fund. If you would like to be a part of this mission, any checks for seed packets need to be made out to Emerald Christian Academy. The school will order the seeds and they will be delivered during the last week of February. To receive this financial aid, we can only order seeds from the school order form. You can find the available seed packets by following the following link: Seed Packets Order Form

Do You Need a New, Local Artist-Created Mask? Are the generic masks not fitting well?

If your child has been having a difficult time wearing masks, the school has masks that have nose pieces sewn into them. They are the masks that were donated earlier in the year. We still have some masks left. If you are wishing to replenish any masks, Claire Hart, a member of our Pleasant Hill SDA Church has worked with a local artist to create high quality masks. She has donated all supplies and the artist has donated her beautiful craftsmanship and talents to benefit your family if you are looking for new masks. She has asked that masks are sold at $8 per mask and ALL proceeds go to ECA’s worthy student tuition fund. Take a look at the attached pdf for a better glimpse of the masks.

ASB SKI TRIP

Students in grades 5-8 will have the opportunity to go to Hoodoo Ski Resort this Friday. Last week information was sent to families in grades 5-8. As a school, we need to receive payment for your family. Please make payments to Emerald Christian Academy. The school will be making one payment for all families to receive the discounted rate.

If you received an email, but are unable to fill out the paperwork, please call the ECA office and a paper copy will be sent home with your child. We need signed paperwork and payments before we leave this Friday.

Students in grades K-4 will be able to participate in swimming lessons later in the year. We are still trying to confirm dates and availability. We will let you know more as we learn more.

BLOOD DRIVE

Our Kindergarten class is sponsoring a blood drive later in February. We are still waiting for a final date. As we get a date approved, we will be sharing this information with school families, churches, and the Pleasant Hill community. Red Cross is hoping for 100 donors! If you have ever given blood or considered sharing the gift of life with others, this is a great way to practice our mission statement of serving others in February.

Report Cards for the 2nd Quarter

Report cards were passed out last Thursday to parents as they picked up children at school. If you did not receive a report card, teachers were looking for parents. If you carpool and would like us to send your child’s report card with someone else, please call the school office to let us know. We can also mail the report card.

2:22:22 on 2/22/22

Our Home & School Leaders support our school in wonderful ways. Thank you for sharing treats with the students last week at the end of testing. February 22, 2022 will definitely be a special day as we celebrate a unique day on the calendar. Our Home and School leaders came up with a fun way to celebrate. Plan on showing your school spirit in unusual ways on this unusual day.

1/2 Day Friday and Hot Lunch

This Friday we will be having our 1/2 day Friday at school. Students in grades K-4 will be partnering up with the Springfield Police Department to make valentines for residents in local nursing homes. We will be delivering the valentines to the SPD, and they will be sharing them with our community.

Thank you Home and School for sharing this great community project and helping our students live out our school mission statement: At ECA, students love God, value learning, and serve others.

Hot lunch this Friday will be pizza, veggies, drink, and dessert.
