RoadRunner Review: New Learning
Principal’s Message:
What did we hear:
The sound of the pencil sharpener in the background amongst the white noise of a bustling classroom. The bell that released the kids to recess. The peals of laughter down the hallway. The reminder to slow down and walk while headed to the lunch room. The clacking of keyboards as one ambled up the stairs to the computer lab. The mottled piano sounds drifting out of the window from the music classroom—while a range of voices joined in on the fun. The growl of the bus as it awakened from its day time nap ready to escort our learners home.
What do we hear:
Maybe I hear the clanging of dishes in the background while the zoom meeting is signing on. No bells or whistles. I hear laughter jarred and jilted between internet disruptions. Maybe my dog scratches at the door to be let out or the cat jumps onto my lap. The neighbor decides to mow the lawn right at this moment. The teacher’s voice is too soft because the volume isn’t working right while a student who forgot to mute their screen has a baby sister crying in the back. The orchestra of house sounds—mail carrier delivering a package, shuffling house slippers, microwave beeping, garage door opening all vie for my attention while trying to absorb the math lesson for the week.
May we acknowledge the challenges and also find gratitude in the opportunity to find new ways of experiencing the world around us.
1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
Psalm 121

What does our learning look like this week?
Friday Chapel
Pastor Ron Sydney, currently residing in Detroit, Michigan engaged us in a compelling, enthusiastic chapel for our kick-off to our “May” chapel series on Mountains and Valleys. Pastor Ron reminded us that sometimes our biggest critic when we face mountains is our OWN selves. And that when we start hearing the voice in our head saying we are not pretty enough, talented enough etc. We need to stop and ask ourselves about, “What God says about me?”
