Hop, Skip and a Jump to Summer!

Principal’s Message:

The countdown has begun. We have 11 days left until the end of the school year. As expected during this Covid year we are still standing on shifting sands. The Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon Health Authority have updated Public Health guidance for schools. This new guidance suggests:

-All vaccinated individuals may opt out of wearing masks IF they provide verification of vaccine

-Masks are no longer required outside at school and at school functions with the idea that distancing will be maintained amongst family pods.

Although this movement suggests that we are headed into a much better direction for the 2021-2022 school year. However, a few things that Emerald Christian Academy will be adhering to in accordance with guidance from the Oregon Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Education Department.

First, with so few days left in school and little time to create an agreed upon method for vaccine verification—we will continue to mandate masks in buildings and not be “vaccine policing.”

Secondly, although masks are not required for outdoor activities, we recognize a few things—not all of our families are entirely comfortable with this step when their children are not vaccinated. We ask that you talk with your child about the importance of spacing when they are outside. We will be continuing to be vigilant at school and providing opportunities for students to participate “maskless” outside while being conscientious of the folks that might not be quite comfortable yet.

I ask that you contribute to the respectful dialogue and ask that we all take some time to talk to our children about supporting their friends and our community while we all get comfortable with changing guidelines.

Thank you, thank you for your continued support and willingness to flex continuously with the changing guidelines.

This weekend I am stepping into Sabbath rest with this verse:

“And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.” 1 Peter 5:10
